PERN S.A.’s infrastructure for transporting crude oil consists of three essential pipeline sections.
The Eastern Section of the “Przyjaźń” pipeline connects the Tank Base in Adamów, located at the border with Belarus, with the Raw Materials Base in Płock. This section reaches a capacity of 50 million tons of crude oil per year.
The Western Section of the “Przyjaźń” pipeline connects the Raw Material Base in Płock with the crude oil base located in Schwedt. The raw material for two German refineries— PCK Raffinerie GmbH Schwedt and TOTAL Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland GmbH in Spergau—flows in this section. The Western Section of the “Przyjaźń” pipeline reaches a capacity of 27 million tons of crude oil per year.
The Pomeranian pipeline connects the Raw Material Base in Płock with the Manipulation Base in Gdańsk. This is where Russian crude oil flows to the refinery in Gdańsk that belongs to Grupa LOTOS S.A. and to export through Naftoport.
The Pomeranian pipeline can transport the raw material in two directions. Along the Gdańsk-Płock route its capacity amounts to approx. 30 million tons of crude oil per year, while in the opposite direction, the pipeline reaches a capacity of approx. 27 million tons per year.
Using its infrastructure, PERN S.A. provides crude oil transport services for the following routes:
- Adamowo – Płock – Gdańsk
- Adamowo – Płock – Heinersdorf (Germany)
- Gdańsk – Płock
- Gdańsk – Płock – Heinersdorf (Germany)
Transhipment of crude oil
The pipeline infrastructure of PERN S.A. is directly connected with Naftoport. It is very important in ensuring the country’s energy security. Using this route, the domestic refineries have the option of supplementing crude oil in the event of any disruption in the supply of raw material from the east. Naftoport also cooperates with PERN S.A. in the area of crude oil transit through Poland.
The transhipment capacity of Naftoport currently amounts to 34 million tons of crude oil and petrol products per year. The crude oil base in Gdańsk belonging to PERN S.A. is the warehouse and technological facilities for transhipment facilities at the seaside terminal.
The main advantages of Naftoport compared to other Baltic Sea ports are primarily the superior transhipment capabilities, unique port location and direct pipeline connection provided by the Pomeranian pipeline. These advantages mean that the Polish crude oil infrastructure is used to transit raw material from the east.
Storage of crude oil
Raw material bases are a part of the crude oil transmission system. They meet the functions of the raw material flow stabilizer. The company also uses its storage capacities to provide a crude oil storage service.
PERN S.A. has three crude oil bases, which in total can store more than 3.0 million m³ of crude oil. The largest of them is located near Płock. The other two are located in Adamów near the border with Belarus and Gdańsk, near Naftoport.
In the bases, the raw material is stored in steel, cylindrical tanks with a capacity of 32 000 to 100 000 m³. Each of them meets all safety and environmental protection requirements.
